The Changing Landscape of Women in Medicine

In Healthwise magazine's “My Secret to Success” interview with female consultants at Royal Brompton & Harefield, Dr Naqvi says: “I truly believe I have the best job in the world. Paediatrics was the perfect speciality for me, as I love being with children. I chose cardiology because the heart is the most fascinating organ in the body.” She notes that traditionally paediatric cardiology was male dominated, but this is changing.

Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist Feature

“Heart murmur in babies and children” — a common worry for parents. Heart murmurs are very common in children: extra noises from the heart, heard with a stethoscope. They may represent an underlying heart problem or may be a normal finding (innocent). Innocent murmurs affect up to 1 in 3 children at some time in their life and do not mean there is any problem with the heart. Diagnosis follows a clinical examination, an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) and an ECG.
