ADHD Cardiac Screening In Children

A number of the commonly prescribed medications for ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) are not recommended in children with heart problems. Dr Naqvi provides cardiovascular screening for children who are taking or being considered for ADHD medication. All patients will have an ADHD cardiac check up including a  complete cardiovascular clinical examination including a blood pressure check, an ECG and an echocardiogram. Dr Naqvi is known for her skills in making children with ADHD feel comfortable during such an assessment. Jack’s mother said ‘I was so nervous about the appointment but another paediatric cardiologist recommended Dr Naqvi for her patience. I am so glad she did. Jack actually enjoyed his cardiac appointment and learned about his heart and the echo machine too!”. Dr Naqvi recommends that children be allowed to bring their favourite distraction entertainment to help them lie as still as they can for the tests. Most bring a phone or a tablet. In the unlikely event that your child is found to have a heart problem, Dr Naqvi is able to provide world class care.
Dr Naqvi advises parents to show their children the following videos prior to their appointment. The videos show children having an ECG and an echocardiogram and also preparing for them using play. You may also find it useful to read the pages on this site with Dr Naqvi’s Top Tips about having an ECG and echocardiogram.
